The Learn from the Experts (LFE) classes are offered in partnership with the
Geneva Park District, Forest Preserve District of Kane County, and the St. Charles Park District.
Beginning Beekeeping
Ages 18+
8 Classes
This course will provide you with all the
information and skills needed to start and
manage your own beehive. Learn how to start
raising honeybees, seasonal management of
hives and the use of bees for pollination and
honey production. Class members will assemble
a beehive and learn how these social insects
work within the hive. The course text, First
Lessons In Beekeeping, will be available at the

Winter Tree Identification
Ages 18+
1 Class
During this two-hour class you'll learn how to
identify trees without leaves. Instructor Valerie
Blaine will demonstrate the importance of bark,
branches, twigs, leaf scars, and buds in tree
identification. The session will begin indoors
with a lecture/presentation. Weather permitting,
we will then head into the woods to practice
tree identification skills. Instructor: Valerie Blaine,

Vegetables from the home garden are fresher, may have better nutrient values, and are often less
costly than those sold in stores. In addition to providing wholesome, low-cost food, vegetable
gardening is an interesting hobby, one in which the whole family can take part. Learn how to have
a successful gardening season with this series of classes offered by the Geneva Park District and the
University
