Glessner House and Prairie Avenue
A radical departure from Victorian architecture, the Glessner
House of 1887 was 19,000 square feet and staffed by 8
servants. The Romanesque, fortress-like granite exterior
and English Arts and Crafts interior inspired Frank Lloyd
Wright. Take a walking tour of Prairie Avenue and hear the
tales of Field, Pullman, Kimball, some of the 19th Century’s
great industrial magnates who lived on Chicago’s most
fashionable street. Visit the Second Presbyterian Church with
its Tiffany stained-glass windows. Please note: there are stairs and a
lot of walking. Also, the house is not ADA accessible. Lunch is on your own in the
neighborhood. Trip includes transportation and tours. Deadline is 5/31. (BK)
