Checkmate Chess
Ages 5-12
4 Classes
Learn how to win at chess! No previous
knowledge of chess is necessary. Each class will
consist of a fun interactive teaching period and
guided practice time. Both new and returning
participants are welcome and will get to the
next level under the guidance of an experienced
Chess Scholars coach. Children will have an
opportunity to test for a Chess Belt® under a
unique Chess Scholars system patterned after
martial arts belts. There will also be a chess
competition with prizes! Instructor: Chess Scholars.

shocking Hollywood gory special effects
makeup. Try out things like bleeding blisters,
bad bruises, wicked wounds, and more secrets
from the movies will be explored. Find out
how your favorite Sci-Fi or scary films use
makeup to horrify viewers. Imagine yourself
on a movie set in Hollywood! We will also
discover what happens to your skin in real life
when a frightening accident occurs. Hands
on experiences make this class amazingly

Investigate what makes Halloween so chilling in
this electrifying and creative science workshop.
Learn the science of creepy Funhouse mirrors.
Have fun with science concepts like static
powered witches, pumpkins puking and fizzing,
and the STEM candy challenge. Hang out in the
Halloween slime lab with outrageous goo like
alien embryos and the science of splat balls too!
Step into a Hollywood make-up lab to create
special effects like gory gashes and bleeding
blisters, just like in your favorite scary movie.
Investigate the science of Halloween pranks
and the historic meaning of “trick or treat” and
more creepy and cool weird Halloween secrets!
Guaranteed Oooohs and Ahhhhs during this
haunted lab experience! Class will end with a
“make your own spooktacular snack concoction
at the “Build a spooky treat buffet”. Kids will
have such a blast; they won’t even realize they
