Jonathon
Honours Graduate and PhD Candidate in
Gender, Sexuality and Culture
I came to ANU because of its reputation for being
a world leader in arts and humanities programs. In
particular, Gender, Sexuality and Culture drew my
attention because of the variety of courses on offer and
the thought provoking material that it presented.
Studying Gender, Sexuality and Culture has provided
me with the confidence and tools to theorise the
relationship between gender, sexuality and other
categories of difference and how these influence our
everyday lives. Along the way, I have developed a
range of transferable skills in terms of communication,
teamwork and time management, which will all help to
make me employable in the future.
I have really enjoyed studying Gender, Sexuality and
Culture because of its interdisciplinary focus. Not only
have I completed courses in Gender and Cultural
Studies but courses from anthropology, history,
philosophy, political science and sociology were all
included in my undergraduate major.

Having completed my Honours in Gender, Sexuality
and Culture, I have decided to continue on to a PhD
and career in academia, so that I can inspire and
challenge others to think outside the box.
