The key to GEMA/HS' quick response to Georgia Tornadoes

Photos don't do justice to the devastation left in the wake of the severe storms and tornadoes that hit south Georgia January 21-22. As the storms cleared, a multitude of state agencies converged on the area but GEMA/HS staff were already on the ground coordinating rescue and recovery resources and getting the long process of rebuilding for the communities affected by the tornadoes underway.

Coordinating a disaster response of this magnitude is a tremendous undertaking, requiring the dedicated efforts of thousands of people. At the GEMA/HS State Operations Center it was an all hands on deck situation in the days leading up to the storm, and as the rest of America was prepping for the Super Bowl, GEMA/HS staff were closely monitoring the weather
