2. Round-Trip for Big and Small
This is the ultimate good-weather trip! From
Ustetind, you can gaze toward the Hardanger-
vidda and the Hardangerjøkulen Glacier—and
you get a full overview of the Hallingskarvet.
The trip starts in easy tracks for 2 kilometers
to Grødalen. From here, there are a little more
demanding tracks over Birgithovda to Grøne
bakken Kiosk and the Red Cross Cabin.
After around 3 km, the track turns nort-
hwest and tips down toward Vestreim
Mountain Lodge, innermost in Budalen.
Here there is a ski café! Ready to go after
a good rest, you just have to follow the
Budals track at the north side of the
Budalsvatnet Lake, to Vesle- Budalen.
Here, the track winds southward toward
Havsdalen again. A few kilometers with
nice downhills in a light birch forest, the
trip ends. Those who count kilometers,
can note 17 km today!
The next stage is 4 kilometers westward to the
track that comes up from Ustaoset. Take a left
here and get ready for a 2-kilometer climb until
you reach the top at 1,378 meters above sea
level. Wonderful views of the Hardangervidda,
Hardangerjøkulen Glacier and Hallingskarvet.
Remember to take a picture of the cairn, the
view, and yourself.

This is an appropriate mountain trip
if you are lucky to have children or
grandchildren with you. Take the ski bus
to Havsdalen, 4 km from Geilo, or drive
there in your own car. It isn’t always
necessary to wear yourselves out on long
uphills; with the Fjellheisen up to Hav-
dalshovda, you start at 1,178 MSL. From
Havsdalshovda, you go westward, in an
easy track and fast tempo, with a wonder-
ful view of Hallingskarvet in front of you.

Trip, Vestlia – Ustetind
3. Hallingdal Track South
Adventurous skiing between Ustaoset and
Norefjell. Ski the whole distance with sleep
overs on the way, or choose a part.
Hallingdal track South starts at Ustaoset,
passes Grønebakken and Hakkesetstølen
to Kikut. From Kikut it continues towards
Bruslettstølen and Sangefjell mountain.
The track continues over Rødungshovda,
Buhovdnatten, Steinstølen up to Dyna on
the border between Ål and Nes.
From Dyna the track continues to Ranten
(Myking). Between Synstevann up to Liaset
there is no groomed trail. If you can not
find the track of others who has been skiing
there, you can take the road from Fv 214
to the parking spot at Liaset, and find the
ski trail that continues southeast towards
Hallingnatten. From Hallingnatten you ski
along Reinsjøen and down to Flatvollen. The
trail continues towards Tempelseter and
ends at Norefjell.
