BOOGIE BLACK

2

Born in the borough that created hip-hop in the Bronx-dale housing project and the nephew of hip-hop pioneer, Disc King Mario, BOOGIE BLACK’s love of hip-hop was a natural progression.

“Boogie” because he is from the boogie-down Bronx, “Black” because as a kid he was surrounded by his uncles friends (legendary MC’s Afrika Bambaataa, Grand-Master Melle Mel, GQ and The Sugar Hill Gang to name a few), and promised his uncle he would always stay true to his culture— hence BOOGIE BLACK “who states the facts” was born.

As a teen-ager, Boogie suffered the untimely loss of his uncle. The Bronx became a constant reminder of the huge void in Boogies life, and the teen began to commute between his cousin’s house in Harlem and the Bronx to help cope with the loss. As an escape, Boogie became a faithful fan of noted skating rink “SKATE KEY”, where he befriended an aspiring DJ by the name of Webstar. Boogie and Webstar shared a mutual

hip hop music and would later form a producer-writer bond creating hit party songs for uptown urban youths. In 2006 Boogie formed a producer-writer relationship with Harlem hit- making producer Ron Brownz. as a MC, Boogie began to concentrate on pursuing a solo project writing the uptown hit “Exercise”. In an effort to gain support among local DJ’s, Boogie began to seek out New York DJ’s who played to large urban audiences. A friend introduced Boogie to legendary DJ and record

executive Kevin “Sugar-Daddy” Woodley. Boogie recalls, “What impressed me about Sugar is that he wasn’t a lazy DJ. For him every record counted. There were at least 1400+ people on the dance floor and he rocked them all night. As a DJ he’s at the top of the game, as a person he’s just a cool dude.” Later, Boogie learned of Kevin “Sugar-Daddy” Woodley’s success as an A&R executive at Columbia Records & Atlantic Records and knew they could create hits together. Within weeks Boogie, Kevin “Sugar-Daddy” Woodley, DJ LA “The Ladies Advocate” and Money Mike Cameron began laying the blueprint for Boogie Black’s Debut Lp “Blame It on the Boogie” to be released on Kevin “Sugar-Daddy” Woodley’s indie label venture, Genesis Recordings.

“BOOGIE BLACK STATES THE FACTS”. The fact is music lovers can prepare to the catch “The Henny Ghost” with Boogie Black’s 1st single “Blame It on the Henny”, an infectious party anthem produced by Kevin “Sugar-Daddy” Woodley, Lil SNS, DJ LA “The Ladies Advocate” and Elai Tubo.
