2018 Golden Circle Football DEL THRASH GCFOOTBALL18 Player of the Year Blake Hoffman QB, Corsicana, Sr. He leaves Corsicana High School the way he left defenders in his wake on the football field — with a jolting, electric and innovative brand of football that left teams thinking now you see him and now you don’t. Blake Hoffman was just that fast and elusive under Friday night lights, and now that he’s gone, it seems his three-year scramble at quarterback was far too short and he left much too quickly. Hoffman leaves with his second Del Thrash Award, symbolic of being the top player in the Golden Circle. He was a clear choice to win it a year ago, and an even easier choice after leading the Tigers to a district title and their best season since 2011. Blake finished the 2018 season rushing for 1,531 yards on 201 carries (a 7.6 yard average) and 17 touchdowns, and he completed 100 of 166 passes (60 percent for 1,284 yards and six more touch- downs, producing more than 2,800 yards of of- fense, and he was the District 8-5A DII MVP. He took over at quarterback his sophomore sea- son and turned a losing team into a playoff team almost overnight. In his three years as a starter, Hoffman has lost only three district games and leaves with more total yards running and passing than any player in Corsicana history – 7,032 com- bined yards. He ran for 3,006 and threw for 4,026 and was the total package as a tough competitor and leader on and off the field. He even played in the secondary in the fourth quarter of close games and he was the best punter in the Golden Circle. More than anything, Hoffman just wanted to win and played with a passion and purpose that made him stand out above the rest.
