DISTRICT 8-5A DII Corsicana TIGERS Head Coach Steve Hoffman 2018 record: 9-3 Last Playoff Appearance: 2018 10 sophomore who was part of the best OL line Hoffman has seen at Cor- sicana, was the Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Manny Zamora, Noah Wynn and Bradley Milligan, who were all All-District and All-Golden Circle offensive linemen, helped the Tigers produce 4,831 yards of of- fense, including 3,547 on the ground. Nathan ran for 1,233 yards and 20 touchdowns and had a 312-yard night in the Tigers’ 53-31 playoff win over Lake Dallas, which is the second most rushing yards in a playoff game in Tigers history behind 2011 star Cameron Washington. That win over Lake Dallas was the highlight of this remarkable season. It started with a strange loss to Centennial in a game where the Ti- gers never punted but lost 28-26 be- cause of fumbles and missed oppor- tunities, but they rebounded quickly and won eight in a row, including winning at Kaufman with the best ending in years when Hoffman con- nected with Zelvin Cline, who had never caught a touchdown pass, for a 45-yard touchdown with seconds remaining to lift the Tigers to a 43- 36 win. That victory seemed to ignite Hoffman’s kids who went 7-0 in the district race with back-to-back shut- outs against Terrell and Royce City, and clinched the title early when they beat Forney 63-24 in front of a huge crowd at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers had another big year from junior wide receiver Drew Denbow and four-year starter Darious Coleman, who had seven interceptions. Both were named to the All-District and All Golden Circle teams. There were outstanding perfor- mances all over the Circle teams along with defensive lineman Jacob Lopez, who emerged as a force, line- backer Erick Dickson and defensive back Logan Ponder. It was a year of breakout perfor- mances – a year to remember. And it was a good one. Nope, make that a great one for the Tigers, who won a playoff game for the first time since 2011 after winning their first outright district title in 14 years with an explosive offense headed by Blake Hoffman, and a swarming defense. “It was fun,” said Tigers coach Steve Hoffman after it was all over. “These kids were a great group of kids and they were a lot of fun.” That’s what coach Hoffman remembers most about his best team and best season – a 9-3 run that ended in a 28-20 loss to Burleson Centennial in the 5A DII Area Round of the playoffs that left every Tiger feeling Corsicana would have advanced had Blake not suffered a foot injury in the second quarter. Blake finished the 2018 season rushing for 1,531 yards on 201 carries (a 7.6 yard average) and 17 touchdowns, and he completed 100 of 166 passes (60 percent for 1,284 yards and six more touchdowns, producing more than 2,800 yards of offense, and he was the District 8-5A DII MVP and was also the Del Thrash Award winner as the top player in the Golden Circle for the second consecutive season. Lane Fuentes, a quick-as-lightning receiver and kick returner, was the district’s Special Teams Player of the Year, and a GC Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Steve Hoffman was the district’s Coach of the Year and the Golden Circle’s Co-Coach of the Year. Da’Jioun Nathan was the GC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Tyler Farmer and defen- sive end Melvin Martin were named the GC’s Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Brayshun Parish, a sopho- more defensive lineman, shared the GC’s Tri-Defensive Newcomer of the Year, and wide receiver Jervon- tae Anderson won the GC’s Randy Green Heart Award. Juan Andrate, a
