Derain, Balthus, Giacometti, une amitié artistique

Le Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris présente une exposition inédite explorant l’amitié entre trois
artistes majeurs du XXe siècle : André Derain (1880-1954), Balthus (1908-2001) et Alberto Giacometti
(1901-1966). Jamais confrontés, leurs regards se rejoignent par la même exigence de ce que doit être
l’œuvre d’art. Bien au-delà d'une admiration réciproque et d'une véritable affection dont ils témoigneront
tout au long de leur vie, la profonde communauté esthétique qui les réunit constitue le fil conducteur de
l'exposition. L’exposition présente une sélection exceptionnelle de plus de 350 œuvres, principalement
centrée sur les années 1930 à 1960. Elle permet de revoir la part la plus importante de l’œuvre de Derain qui
n’a pas été présentée à Paris depuis plus de vingt ans, de revoir Balthus, tout en portant un nouveau regard

From June 2nd to October 29th 2017
The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris presents an original exhibition
exploring the relationship between three major 20th century artists: Derain (1880-
1954), Balthus (1908-2001), and Giacometti (1901-1966).
Featuring close to 350 works focused mainly on the thirties and the sixties, the
exhibition retraces the important moments in this artistic friendship, which
intensified the crossover between their lives and their art. Far beyond mutual
admiration and the real affection for each other they expressed throughout their
lives, they were bound by a profound aesthetic commonality. A number of common
threads run throughout the exhibition.
The exhibit offers the most important part of Derain’s work to discover, which has
not been displayed in Paris for more than twenty years, to see Balthus again, and
