Cette exposition est organisée avec
la collaboration du musée du Louvre,
respectant méticuleusement le
développement chronologique des
travaux de cet artiste, même si elle
s’attache de manière particulière
à l’art du portrait d’Ingres, dont
l’ambition
première
demeurait
de passer à la postérité comme
un peintre d’histoire. L’œuvre de
cet artiste n’est qu’apparemment
empreint de classicisme. Il demeure
une des références essentielles de
l’art jusqu’aux révolutions artistiques
et esthétiques de la fin du XIX e
et des débuts du XXe siècle. Dans la
lignée des Raphaël et Poussin, Ingres
annonce l’œuvre de Picasso et les
distorsions anatomiques, inspirant
les bouleversements des Écoles
européennes au XIXe siècle, et plus
spécialement celle d’Espagne. I

This exhibition is organized with the collaboration of the Musée du
Louvre, with deep respect to the chronological development of this
artist’s works, even if it especially highlights Ingres art of portrait, whose
first ambition was to be renowned as a history painter. This artist’s work
is only apparently related to classicism. It remains one of the essential
references in art until the artistic and aesthetic revolutions of the late 19th
century and the beginning of the 20th century. In the footsteps of Raphael
and Poussin, Ingres announces Picasso and the anatomical distorsions,
inspiring the upheavals in European Schools during the 19th century,
particularly in Spain. I
