He texted me and asked if I would go to a holiday work party with him the next night. He told me to dress up because it was a nice place. The next day, I met him at his apartment. While I was waiting for him to get ready, I noticed a present on his ottoman. I yelled out to him that his roommate must have left him a Christmas gift and we should open it. Ben popped out of his bedroom and told me not to touch it. It was a present for me and I could open it when he was finished. “He came out and sat beside me on the couch. I opened the present and pulled out a Kansas City Chiefs hat and put it on. I asked him if that meant that I’d be going to Kansas City with him. He was going to leave in six months for a cardiology fellowship at Kansas GAZELLE WEST University Medical School. He said yes. I was so excited that I told him that the hat was almost as good as a proposal. Right then and there, Ben got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said YES! Afterward, we went out to dinner to celebrate because there was no holiday work party. It was all set up so I would look nice when he proposed. “I knew Ben was ‘the one’ when I realized I could tell him anything, good or bad. He loves me for me. He’s never tried to change me and accepts me the way I am. I’m looking forward to Ben seeing me for the first time in my wedding dress, being pronounced husband and wife, and celebrating with family and friends, dancing the night away.”
