A Melanistic Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus Pallas, 1811) was
observed for the first time at the salt ponds of Umm Al-Rashrash (Eilat), southern
Palestine near the Jordanian border in March 2013. This bird was also observed
in the same area in February 2014.
It could be the one and only black Greater Flamingo in the world.
