FAMILY & HOME
1 . As the wedding party processed , members of the Gateway Men ’ s Chorus sang excerpts from the majority opinion in the Obergfell v . Hodges Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage across the country , including the text , “ Marriage has transformed strangers into families , families into societies ... It allows two people to find a life that could not be found alone .” During the recessional , the singers sang “ Happy Together ,” which Joe and Kraig sang along to as they made their way back down the aisle while holding hands .
2 . In keeping with the fact they got engaged on a rowboat , during the ceremony , the two tied a nautical knot out of rope that was made in their wedding colors .
3 . When the couple was introduced at the reception , the team at Union Station ( including their wedding coordinator , Jaci Spindler ) allowed the wedding party to enter from the upper gallery looking down over the Grand Hall . After a beautiful light show , the wedding party made a surprise entrance in archways , four stories above the wedding guests . When Kraig and Joe stood in their places , the DJ , Josh Hanke , switched the music from “ I ’ m on Top of the World ” to “ Don ’ t Cry for Me Argentina ,” and both grooms briefly made a pose from “ Evita ,” to the laughter of the crowd .
4 . After dancing began , the grooms ’ dogs , Emmit and Sprout , visited the dance floor for a few minutes with the wedding guests .
What They Have Learned About Marriage
Joe and Kraig said there ’ s nothing better than being able to turn to the person you love and know that he is your husband , and that the world continues to evolve so that love can be consecrated in marriage and under the law . That , and giving your spouse room to nap when he needs it , are the best gifts you can give another person .
