Queen Latifah
T
he past few weeks have been fairly spectacular for Queen Latifah. The movie,
“Girls Trip,” which she stars in with Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany
Haddish, is a smash hit, grossing more than $30 million at the box office in its
first weekend.
Prior to becoming a movie star and Revlon cover girl, Latifah once worked
at Burger King, then made her mark in the hip-hop music scene. Born Dana Owens in 1970 in
New Jersey, she attributes part of her success and work ethic to her school teacher mother and
police officer father. Her evolution from music to acting has been nothing short of remarkable.
In 2002, she received an Academy Award nomination for her role in “Chicago.” With these
accomplishments and many more, we can certainly bow down to say, “All Hail the Queen!”
