PUBLISHER'S NOTE Let’s Believe in the Power of Love A s I am writing this note, it is exactly one week after the phenomenal once-in-a- lifetime solar eclipse, a day that united the country in sharing and celebrating something incredibly beautiful, even if it was only for a couple of minutes. But oh, how wonderful it felt to sense the magical moment of togetherness in the air. It was a moment that created hope for me - a new beginning, so to speak. We are at a time in America when tensions are at an all-time high, and the country remains severely divided. But amid it all, we are reminded that there is still beauty and hope. That is why the third annual October health issue is dear to my heart. It was created in honor of my close friend who died two years ago, after a brave, five-year battle with stage 4 breast cancer. While we are navigating race issues, discussing tax reform or debating where to go on vacation, there are many people who wish for very little: the chance to wake up in the morning without nausea, without physical pain, without the dark mood of the day ahead, when they have to muster the strength to undergo another dose of chemotherapy treatment. They just want the gift of enjoying a happy, healthy life. In the grand scheme of things, everything else does not really matter. Our October health issue is an opportunity for us to share the stories that matter; the human stories that give us hope for a better tomorrow. Our cover story is a true testament to the power of love. This October, as we raise awareness about breast cancer, let’s also celebrate survivors of all types of cancers and other health challenges, and remember those who fought until the end of life, as we know it on earth. Let’s wrap our arms around the caregivers who sacrifice daily and dedicate their time and resources to share the power of love. You see, as we go through this thing called life and the challenges it brings, there is hope that love wins in the end. Let us love one another more, because in the end, all there is, is love.
