T
he recent St. Louis Symphony Gala Celebration honored
the legacy of music director David Robertson, who
is retiring his baton after 13 years at Powell Hall. The
black-tie affair also commemorated the symphony’s 50th
anniversary at Powell Hall, which was built as a vaudeville
theater and movie house in 1925. A special performance of Rachmaninoff’s
Piano Concerto No. 2 featured Robertson and the orchestra with pianist
Simon Trpčeski. Following the dinner program, the evening was capped
off with dancing to the music of Denise Thimes.
