WOMEN WHO INSPIRE
it sets out to do.
She is on the board of Forward Through Ferguson and The
Transformational Agenda, focused on healing and transforming African-
American communities, and is assistant treasurer for her alumni chapter
of Delta Sigma Theta.
Not all business and no play, James tries to keep a good balance with
her work, community involvement, home life, and three children –
Khalani, 22, Liya, 18, and Rhadi, 11.
So far, her biggest life challenges came during the last years of Jamaa.
Though issues began to surface, she didn’t want students and families
to feel the struggle, and she wanted the school to remain open. But
after much internal turmoil, James said she knows those years still had
meaning for everyone involved.
Her advice to others who face major challenges is to “Keep moving
forward.” Don't dwell too long on the past.
“Create a strong network system, believe in something greater than
yourself, whatever that may look like to you, and you will prevail,” she said.
