he St. Louis Press Club has announced its Media
Persons of the Year awardees for 2018. They are: Betsey
Bruce, who recently retired following a 40-plus career
in local TV news; longtime KDSK sportscaster Frank
Cusumano; former St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist
and reporter Eric Mink; the late TV newsman John Auble, who will be
honored posthumously; and KSHE-95, which is celebrating its 50th
year in St. Louis and is the longest-running rock ‘n’ roll radio station
in the U.S. Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is lifelong
journalist and TV news anchor Jim Lehrer, who is a graduate of the
University of Missouri School of Journalism. The awards gala is on
Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Edward Jones North Campus. For tickets

The Chamber Music Society of St. Louis is celebrating its 10th
anniversary with a gala at The Sheldon honoring beloved conductor
Leonard Slatkin. “Notes from Hollywood – The Sequel” will feature
music from award-winning film composers, along with stories and
comments from the maestro. Slatkin will also be honored with a
proclamation from Mayor Lyda Krewson’s office declaring the day of Save the date for the ninth annual Sing for Siteman benefit
concert. The show, featuring celebrated artists from Opera Theatre
and renowned pianist Carol Wong, will be held on Saturday, March
17, at the John Burroughs Performing Arts Center. Proceeds benefit
research at Siteman Cancer Center. More information is available at

Congratulations to Dr. Donald Suggs, who was recently recognized
with the 2017 Thomas Jefferson Society Award by the Missouri
Historical Society. The society, which operates the Missouri History
Museum and the Library & Research Center, presents its highest
award to those who have played a crucial role in the betterment of
St. Louis. The society cited Suggs’ six decades of civic contributions,
including his investment in education, economic opportunity and the
cultural wellbeing of St. Louis’ African-American community and of
the region. Suggs is the publisher of the St. Louis American, one of the
largest African-American newspapers in the country.
