HEARTH & HOME

Love Yourself , Love Your Space

By Rhonda Shrum Bodnar

Love is usually reserved to describe a feeling toward a person - either someone in your life , or even yourself .

But can you actually love a home ? Not only do I think you can , but I feel that if you love your home , you ’ re more likely to engage in habits that are good for you , bringing more self-love into your life . Living in a space that makes you feel positive can raise your level of happiness in all aspects of life , and I should know . I ’ ve experienced it myself .
Home is where we spend most of our time , but the term means more than just housing . The word home evokes feelings of safety , nourishment , comfort and peace . People often say that love is at the heart of it , but what if you don ’ t love your space ?
There are many reasons why some people may not feel head over heels in their own home . Perhaps you decorated when you first moved in , and life moved so fast you never updated . Maybe you moved into someone else ’ s home to save money , and while it ’ s nice , it ’ s not you . Without even realizing it , your home ’ s lack of personality may be sabotaging your comfort , therefore diminishing your feelings of overall happiness when you are there .
Believing that you deserve a home that you love - even just a space in the home - is not selfish , it ’ s generous . To recognize what your own soul needs to feel happy is a blessing . Individuality is the key to separating what we consider beautiful from what a show on HGTV tells us to consider beautiful .
