With an eye on “ the next generation of jazz ,” the recent Jazz St . Louis gala celebrated the future of the genre during an evening at The Sheldon . Following a cocktail hour , dinner and live auction , guests were treated to a special performance by Grammy Award-nominated piano prodigy , 13-year-old Joey Alexander , who took the stage with the Joey Alexander Trio . Other performers throughout the evening included the organization ’ s Jazz U students , as well as songstress Denise Thimes , who was the featured entertainer for the event ’ s “ after-hours cabaret .” David and Thelma Steward served as event co-chairs .
