WELLNESS & WELL-BEING B WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? oth #MeToo and #TimesUp represent the solidarity of women everywhere. Officially created in 2006 by Tarana Burke as part of a campaign to promote “empowerment through empathy” among women of color who have experienced sexual abuse, Burke said #MeToo declares sexual violence sufferers aren’t alone and shouldn’t be ashamed. In October 2017, Alyssa Milano encouraged using the phrase to bring attention to the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment. The #MeToo movement was represented with black attire at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. The #TimesUp movement is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere, founded on Jan. 1.
