JENIFER LEWIS
PHOTOS BY DAVID ANDERSON
A
ctress, comedian, singer, activist and author
Jenifer Lewis returned to her alma mater,
Webster University, to celebrate her memoir,
“The Mother of Black Hollywood.” The native
St. Louisan currently stars in the ABC comedy
hit, “Black-ish,” and through the years, has appeared on stage,
on television and in films, such as “Beaches” and “Sister Act,”
and played a mother in several movies, like “What’s Love Got
to Do With It (her favorite)” and “The Preacher’s Wife,” roles
that prompted the title of the book. Her recent appearance at
the Loretto-Hilton Center on the Webster campus drew an
enthusiastic crowd, many of whom were from her old North St.
Louis County neighborhood.
