Commonwealth University’s Institute for Contemporary Art, has been
announced as the park’s new leader following an extensive nationwide
search. Ross also served as curator and director of arts programs at

Springboard to Learning’s Lip Sync Battle and Gala will be held this
year on Friday, Oct. 5, at The Caramel Room. In the next few weeks,
contestants will practice performing a song of their choosing with
the assistance of professional coaches. They will then perform before
a live audience at the gala, with proceeds benefiting Springboard’s
arts-integrated programming for local children. For tickets, visit
springboardstl.org.
Get ready for a Moroccan-themed, “1,001 art-filled nights” at this
year’s Grand Center Inc. gala. For the first time, the event on Friday,
Sept. 28, will be held in The Big Top at its new permanent location on
Washington Avenue. The 2018 honoree is Lawrence Group CEO Steve
Smith, who is being hailed for his contributions to the Grand Center
Arts District and beyond. Smith’s latest venture, the Angad Arts Hotel,
to be located next door to Powell Hall, is slated to open in the fall. We’re
told the boutique property, whose motto is “Stay Colorful,” is the first
to allow guests to choose a room based on their “mood,” whether
it’s red, green, yellow, blue, etc. The Angad will also house the Grand
Tavern restaurant, by celebrity chef David Burke, as well as an outdoor
rooftop terrace and spaces for private events.
