ove shopping for a cause? The Resale Shop is holding
its third annual Recycled Art Sale later this month to
benefit underserved St. Louisans. More than 200 pieces
of art from national, international and local artists will be
available for purchase at the Creve Coeur shop, which is
operated by the National Council of Jewish Women. A few exceptional
items include an oversized lithograph of a pinup girl by iconic artist
Alberto Vargas, a serigraph by famed Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay, and
an original oil pastel work by St. Louis’ own Ted Collier. Proceeds from

the sale, co-chaired by Phyllis Langsdorf and Peggy Remis, will support
programs to help local women, children and families. The VIP preview
night on Wednesday, April 25 gives attendees an opportunity to shop
before the sale opens to the public on Thursday, April 26. For tickets,

There will be a number of tickets available for The Muny’s
“Evening with the Stars” performance, which takes place during its
heavily anticipated Centennial Gala on Friday, May 18. The gala itself
sold out earlier this year, but some general admission seats for the
show portion of the evening are being released for sale to the general
public on Thursday, May 7. Also, from 1 to 5 p.m., on Sunday, May 20,
The Muny’s 100th Birthday Bash will be held, with a “grand finale”
beginning at 5 p.m. The free event on the Muny grounds will feature
live entertainment, interactive behind-the-scenes demonstrations,
and themed, child-friendly activities - and of course, birthday cake!
The stage will soon be set for Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ main
stage production of “Romeo and Juliet.” The company announced
that Webster University Conservatory of Theatre Arts alumna Sigrid
Wise and New York-based actor Reynaldo Piniella have been cast
as the star-crossed lovers in one of Shakespeare’s most-performed
tragedies. Elena Araoz, an actress and stage director of theater and
opera, will direct. The free production in Forest Park runs nightly
June 1 to 24 (excluding Tuesdays). The organization has also added a
fourth pillar to its programming: In the Works will join In the Schools,
In the Streets and In the Park to truly make it a year-round festival. In
the Works, a festival of new plays, is a ticketed event scheduled in the
f all at the Grandel Theatre, with dates and ticket information to be
released in the summer.
The upcoming season for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis
includes the 2017 Tony Award winner for Best Play, a legendary
musical and a family favorite for the holidays. The powerhouse
musical “Evita” begins the season Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by “A
Doll’s House Part 2,” “A Christmas Story,” “Alabama Story,” “Oslo (last
year’s Tony Award-winning play),” and “The Play That Goes Wrong.”
The 2018-2019 season will be the final season for The Rep’s artistic
director, Steven Woolf, who is retiring after serving in that capacity
for three decades.
