Thanks to its location , Cancun is surrounded by some of the most stunning islands you will find in the Caribbean Sea . These include Isla Contoy and Holbox , popular amongst tourists who seek to be in direct contact with nature .
The beautiful Isla Contoy is located where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico , about 18 miles south of Isla Mujeres . The island has no inhabitants apart from the wildlife , and it is home to hundreds of different species of fish and types of birds . It is just over 5 miles in length and only 200 visitors are allowed each day in order to cause minimal disturbance to its wildlife .
Holbox is an island located northwest of Cancun . It is a sanctuary to thousands of wild species such as dolphins , pelicans , turtles , flamingos and other exotic birds . Holbox is surrounded by sandy unspoiled beaches , crystal clear waters ideal for windsurfing , snorkeling or sailing and one of a kind experiences like swimming with the famous Domino whale shark or crocodile watching .

La Hermosa Isla Contoy está ubicada donde el mar Caribe se encuentra con el golfo de México , a unos 30 km de Isla Mujeres . La isla no tiene más habitantes que los pertenecientes a la vida silvestre y es hogar de cientos de especies de peces y tipos de aves . Tiene sólo 8.5 km de largo y únicamente se permite que haya 200 visitantes al día , de modo que se perturbe lo menos posible a los animales silvestres .
Holbox es una isla ubicada al noroeste de Cancún . Es un santuario para miles de especies salvajes como delfines , pelicanos , tortugas , flamencos y otras aves exóticas . Holbox está rodeada por playas arenosas inmaculadas , aguas cristalinas para practicar el windsurfing , buceo con snorkel , velerismo o navegación , además de experiencias únicas como nadar con los famosos tiburones ballena u observar a los cocodrilos .
