ONLINE Smallholder online gets a revamp A s part of our continuing drive to make the Gauteng Smallholder as accessible and useful to as many smallholders as possible we have recently overhauled our website, giving it a fresh, new look and a “seamless” interface to the on-line version of the magazine. This is of benefit to online readers, as well as to advertisers in the magazine, as their advertisements now have links to their websites. Thus, an online reader has only to click on an advertisement of interest to be taken directly to the advertiser's website, from where he can glean further product information, pricing etc. Tablet users and those who access the internet on their smart phones will be delighted to know that the website and magazine are now “mobile-enabled”. The system is geared to recognise which type of device you are accessing it on and will direct you automatically to the correct format for your device. Significantly for advertisers, there is no additional charge on our part for these added facilities ~ it's all part of our service to our clients. For advertisers who don't yet have websites we have put a link to a telephone number. For online readers who struggle with slow, expensive 3G connections we suggest you download a pdf file of the edition of your choice ~ the file is not very large ~ whereupon you can read the magazine at your leisure on your computer without chewing up data on a live link. There are easily-found buttons and instructions on the site should you wish to download the pdf file. The online version of the magazine is uploaded to the website about a week before the printed version is available, usually in the third week of the month preceding the month of issue. As a result we no longer publish separately classified advertisements as they are received, or diary and event entries. In their stead we have 41 www.sasmallholder.co.za expanded the scope of our online offering of useful documents and links, and will continue to do so as new information comes available. Allied to the changes to our website, we have launched a Facebook group, which we hope readers and smallholders countrywide will use to exchange information and views on smallholderrelated topics.
