Annual clivia show a gardener’s dream
O
ne of the sure signs
of spring is the
appearance of the
beautiful blooms of the clivia
plants in September.
The Clivia miniata (boslelie) is
the best known of the clivia
species. Clivia miniata is one
of six species of clivia. The
other five have pendulous
blooms and do not provide as
spectacular a display in the
garden as the miniata species.
Clivia miniata flowers are
easily identifiable with their
large round heads of orange
flowers appearing above the
attractive green strap-like
leaves. While orange is still
the most common and
impressive colour of Clivia
miniata, they are also
available in a variety of other
colours that will appeal to all
tastes.

Joburg Clivia Club Flower
Show on September 10 and
11 at Garden World in
Muldersdrift.
There will be a veritable feast
of display blooms on the
show tables and you can
browse among the large
variety of clivias on sale. At
least 20 different vendors will
be selling various clivia plants.
