PICF 2017
The songs ‘Melpayanan’ and ‘Jaranan’
performed by One Voice with expert
choreography captivated the jury of the
Penabur International Choir Festival (PICF)
2017. The prestigious title of Grand Prix
Champion and winner of the Folklore Choir
category was given to this choir from
Purwokerto, Central Java. The complete list

For their victory at the Grand Prix
PICF 2017, which was held at PENABUR
International Secondary School, Kelapa
Gading, Jakarta, on 9 September 2017,
One Voice received several prizes. This
includes a certificate, musical instruments,
as well as a cash prize of Rp5,000,000 for
winning the Folklore Choir category, plus
Rp30,000,000 as the Grand Prix Champion.
The PICF 2017 was made up of 131 choirs
from 16 provinces in Indonesia, and two
from its neighbouring countries, Malaysia

and the Philippines. About the biennial
event, which is a collaboration between
BPK PENABUR Jakarta and the Bandung
Choral Society, Adri Lazuardi, PICF 2017
Advisor, said, “We aim to create individuals
who are knowledgeable, faithful
and principled.”
PICF 2017 also involved the participation
of jurors from Indonesia (Ivan Yohan,
Joseph Kristanto, Roynaldo H. Saragih),
Vietnam (Dang Chau Anh), the Philippines
(Dennis Gregory A. Sugarol), Latvia (Janis
Liepins), England (Paul Smith), Australia
(Mark O’Leary), Singapore (Albert Tay),
and Malaysia (Susanna Saw). The presence
of these foreign jurors confirms PICF’s
role as a barometer for national and
international school choirs.
