Sulawesi’s crystal-clear waters
teem with underwater life making
for some of the world’s best dive sites.
A two to three-hour boat ride from
the capital city of Manado, the
Bunaken National Marine Park is
home to an explosion of marine
biodiversity, including more than 90
species of fish and 390 species of coral.
Here, even the most salty reef veteran
is sure to catch a glimpse of
something they’ve never seen before.
Like the above-water geography that
encourages Sulawesi’s unique wealth
of avifauna, the varying underwater
environments make the park a
miniature representation of the entire
Coral Triangle. Whether you want to
see smaller creatures like the
extremely rare blue-ringed octopus or
glimpse astonishingly large whale
sharks and sperm whales, Bunaken
offers a good chance of seeing both.
