MACAO HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS THE UNESCO CREATIVE CITY OF GASTRONOMY
Blessed with delicious dishes that combine of Chinese , Macanese and Portuguese origins , the Macanese proud of their “ East-meets-West ” cuisine . Not only they passionately relish the food , but they creatively bring it to the next level . So it ’ s no surprise Macao culinary is renowned as a true heaven for foodies , especially now that Macao has been designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy .
The designation of Macao , China as a new member city of UNESCO Creative Cities Network ( UCCN ) in the field of gastronomy was announced by the UNESCO Director-General , Irina Bokova , on November 1 , 2017 . Macao officially became the third Creative City of Gastronomy in China , after Chengdu and Shunde , as well as be part of the UCCN ’ s 180 members from 72 countries , including 26 cities of gastronomy . Created in 2004 , the UCCN covers seven creative fields : crafts and folk art , design , film , gastronomy , literature , music , and media arts .
To celebrate the designation of Macao as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy , the Macao SAR Government has prepared a series of activities locally and internationally . One of them has been launched on January 17 – 19 , 2018 . The event that was entitled International Gastronomy Forum brought to town the representatives of 17 UNESCO Creative Cities of
Gastronomy to connect with and discuss the theme of “ The Power of Gastronomy ” for a sustainable development .
Macao will also host the Asia ’ s 50 Best Restaurants Awards in 2018 and 2019 . In addition , Macao will launch many other gastronomy activities , including Macao Food Festival which you can expect gorgeous dishes such as Dim Sum , the steamed dumplings with various style and taste , that will urge you to add more . Or the Egg Tarts , crispy light layers of flaky pastry with a rich creamy egg custard filling , topped off with a slightly bitter caramel crust , will make your tongue ’ s dancing .
Beyond what has been mentioned , Macao will implement a four-year action plan as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy . The various initiatives include Management and Supervision Mechanism , Enhancement of Promotion and Awareness , Education and Inheritance , Exchange and Cooperation , Support for the Development of the Local Catering Industry , and Cross-field Cooperation in the Creative Industry .
