The polar regions of our planet do not
have day and night as we know them
elsewhere across the globe. Instead, light
corresponds with summer and dark with
winter. In the area around McMurdo
Sound the sun does not break the horizon
for five months. This project also strives
to show the beauty of the rarely seen
or photographed Antarctic winter.
Area kutub tidak memiliki siang dan malam
sebagaimana bagian bumi lainnya. Cahaya
ada saat musim panas dan gelap terjadi pada
musim dingin. Di wilayah sekitar McMurdo
Sound, cahaya matahari tidak menembus
cakrawala sampai lima bulan lamanya.
Proyek ini juga berusaha menunjukkan
keindahan musim dingin di Antartika yang
jarang dilihat atau tertangkap kamera.
The Transantarctic Mountains
The Transantarctic Mountains split the continent. On one side
of these mountains is the Ross Ice Shelf and on the other is the Polar
Plateau. The Polar Plateau makes up the majority of Antarctica’s land
area and consists of land completely buried by thousands of metres
of ice. This photo was shot from a helicopter looking directly south
towards the South Pole.
Pegunungan Transantarctic yang membelah benua. Di satu sisi
pegunungan ini terdapat Ross Ice Shelf sedangkan di sisi lainnya
adalah dataran tinggi kutub. Dataran tinggi kutub merupakan bagian
darat terbesar dari Antartika dan terdiri atas lahan yang seluruhnya
terkubur oleh ribuan meter es. Foto ini diambil dari helikopter yang
menghadap langsung ke selatan, mengarah pada Kutub Selatan.
