156 News GARUDA INDONESIA NEWS GARUDA INDONESIA DEDICATES 5-STAR AIRLINE STATUS TO INDONESIA PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. was awarded the status of a 5-star Airline by Skytrax, a leading independent aviation research firm based in London, England. The award was present by the CEO of Skytrax, Edward Plaisted, to the President and CEO of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., M. Arif Wibowo, at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta on January 27, 2015. Present at the award ceremony was Indonesian Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan. Achieving recognition as a 5-Star Airline was the result of a number of improvements consistently made by Garuda Indonesia in its transformation from an airline unrecognised by the international aviation industry to one of the world’s best airlines. Among more than 200 airlines throughout the world, there are only seven today that hold the status of a 5-Star Airline, including All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and now, Garuda Indonesia. M. Arif Wibowo said that the achievement is one of the most important milestones for Garuda Indonesia in its quest to gain international recognition for its transformation and the continuous advancements undertaken by the airline. “We proudly present this award to the people of Indonesia. This will motivate us even further to continue developing and providing the best service possible so that our customers will always feel the excitement that comes from flying with Garuda Indonesia,” said M. Arif Wibowo. Indonesian Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan expressed a similar sentiment. “This award is remarkable. I believe that this gift from Garuda Indonesia to the people of Indonesia is a result of the hard work, earnestness and consistency of the management and employees of Garuda Indonesia in bringing the best service to all of its customers, leading to its newfound title as a 5-Star Airline,” said Ignasius Jonan.
