2015 BEAUTY TRENDS
March is here, meaning it’s
time to retire your winter
cosmetics and make space for
some of the exciting spring/
summer beauty trends of 2015.
Colours reviews some of the
most popular – and wearable
– make-up themes spotted at
home and abroad in new
collections and at spring/
summer fashion shows.
The red lip made a triumphant return
this season – after the almost entirely
lipstick-free autumn look – with deep berry
lipstick diffused around the edges for a
sultry, stained effect at Dolce & Gabbana,
while Zac Posen and Missoni showed
bright, flirty orange-reds.
When it comes to eye make-up, purple is the
colour of choice for the season, whether
rendered in moody orchid as at Derek Lam
or the deep, smoky grape hue seen at Vera
Wang. At Matthew Williamson it was more
of a 1970s violet, whilst icy lavender offset
the sheer coral lips at Sally Lapointe.
Beyond the purple haze, electric flashes of
colour shine through. Pop art eye make-up
wasn’t quite what it seemed at shows like
Fendi and Peter Som, where the artists used
strips of leather, satin stickers and swipes of
lipstick in place of traditional eyeliner.
Of course, classic black eyeliner is never out
of style. Black liquid eyeliner went from clean
and slightly flicked at Oscar de la Renta to
exaggeratedly winged-out at Saint Laurent and
Cushnie et Ochs. And what better way to wear it
for spring/summer 2015 extended past the outer
corners or in a bold line underneath. Keep the
line straight and strong for a graphic effect.
Heavily powdered matte skin trends have
faded for a high-shine look. Complexions
were decidedly dewy at the likes of Marni,
Simone Rocha and Donna Karan, with
