162 News GARUDA INDONESIA NEWS LIVERPOOL INTRODUCE TRAINING KIT IN INDONESIA Chanting fans filled Central Park Jakarta when the English Premier League introduced Liverpool FC’s new training kit with the Garuda Indonesia logo. The official launch of the new training kit in Indonesia took place on May 29, 2014, as part of Garuda Indonesia’s strengthening partnership with Liverpool FC, having become its Official Airline Partner in 2012. The Garuda Indonesia-branded training kit will be used by all players and coaching staﬀ of the club in the 2014–2015 and 2015–2016 seasons. In addition to President and CEO of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. Emirsyah Satar, the launch was attended by the Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo, International Business Development Director of Liverpool Jonathan Kane, as well as three legends from the Anfield-based club, Phil Thompson, Dietmar Hamann and Luis Garcia. Hundreds of cheering fans from Indonesia’s official Liverpool FC supporters’ club, Big Reds, also attended. Emirsyah Satar said that he is proud that Garuda Indonesia sponsors a club such as Liverpool FC. “It is a historic night, not only for Garuda Indonesia but also Indonesia. Certainly it is our hope that our partnership will grow ever stronger. Moreover, this launch is not only the first in Indonesia, but also in the world. We are proud,” said Emirsyah Satar. Meanwhile, the Youth and Sports Minister said, “On behalf of the government, we thank Garuda Indonesia and Liverpool FC, especially the three Liverpool FC legends, for being here today. It is a point of pride to have our country’s name on the team’s training kit.” The day before the event, Anfield legends Thompson, Hamann and Garcia participated in a series of activities with Liverpool FC fans. They also held a coaching clinic at Hanggar Futsal, Pancoran, Jakarta. At least 60 children from the Modern Diaconal Campus Foundation took part in the short training session. In addition, the legends attended a meet-and-greet with supporters at Hotel Pullman Jakarta.
