TESATE, PROMOTING
LOCAL DIVERSITY ON AN
INTERNATIONAL SCALE
89
The coconut ice cream melts
over the traditional crepes
known as serabi solo. The
dessert is accompanied by warm
black tea and a jazzy folk song
that is sung by female singers
over the high-end stereo system.
TeSaTe Restaurant is located on the
fourth floor of Plaza Senayan, Jakarta.
Upon arrival, guests walk through a modern
white hallway, reaching a white door
decorated with Javanese script, Hanacaraka.
The traditional-modern atmosphere is
represented by sandstone walls and wooden
tables, furniture and panels. The decorative
lampshades also take on the Hanacaraka
theme, while scents of jasmine, roses and
shredded pandanus leaf are in the air.
A waitress wearing a kain kebaya is sitting in
the middle of the room and preparing serabi
solo. Guests can order from a wide range of
toppings, including homemade ice cream.
Behind the glass window opposite, a waiter
is grilling satays.
The mission of TeSaTe Restaurant,
which was established in 2008, is to promote
the richness and diversity of local cuisine
on an international scale. One of the
newest dishes on their menu is nasi megono:
steamed rice accompanied by chopped
unripe jackfruit, cooked in grated coconut.
Then are added assorted extras, namely
fresh salad, baby squid, shrimps and crackers.
Another favourite on the menu, gudeg kendil,
is placed in earthenware and cooked in a fiery
container. Chicken satay is provided in two
distinctive styles: the spiced sate ayam
Madura and the sweetened sate ayam
Ponorogo. Both are served with special
peanut sauce.
As well as experiencing this delightful
restaurant with family, guests can
arrange informal events or meetings here.
TeSaTe, as a member of Sarirasa Group
and a sister company of Sate Khas Senayan,
also has branches at Pacific Place and
Sam Ratulangi, Menteng.
