Al Dhafra Festival 2017 – Madinat Zayed , Al Dhafra , Abu Dhabi , December 14 – 27

This festival embodies the spirit of heritage in this part of the world , celebrating Bedouin life and culture . Weeks before its official opening , on the edge of the Empty Quarter desert and its magnificent sand dunes , the caravans of the camel owners , tribes and Sheiks alike , start moving towards Al Dhafra from the many parts of the Arabian peninsula , until the festival grounds fill with hundreds of men and women from the many tribes of the region alongside thousands of purebred camels from the Asayel and Majaheem lineage . The highlight of the festival programme is the famous Mazayna , a beauty contest for camels and a celebration of the beloved animal that played a huge role in sustaining life in the arid lands long before the oil and wealth era . The festival programme also includes many other activities and contests – a photography competition , a popular bazaar , Saluki dog races , and falconry shows to name a few .
Festival budaya Timur Tengah ini merayakan kehidupan dan tradisi suku Bedouin . Beberapa minggu sebelum festival dibuka secara resmi , di tepi gurun Empty Quarter dan bukit pasirnya yang indah , rombongan pemilik unta , suku-suku dan para Sheik , mulai bergerak dari berbagai kawasan di semenanjung Arab menuju Al Dhafra , hingga lokasi festival ini dipenuhi ratusan pria dan wanita dari berbagai suku di kawasan tersebut , bersama ribuan unta dari garis keturunan Asayel dan Majaheem . Puncak dari festival ini adalah Mazayna , kontes kecantikan unta , hewan yang berperan besar dalam kehidupan masyarakat sebelum era minyak dan kejayaan Uni Emirat Arab . Selain Mazayna , festival ini juga meliputi berbagai kegiatan dan kontes , antara lain lomba fotografi , bazar , kompetisi anjing Saluki dan kontes burung elang . Di samping aspek budaya , festival ini juga menjadi ajang transaksi bisnis besar-besaran dan pembelian unta bernilai jutaan dolar , yang berlangsung dalam lelang terbuka maupun di sepanjang jalan utama festival , yakni Charee al Malyoon , atau “ Jalanan Berjuta-juta ”.
