John, another high-schooler from Buho
Buho, is carrying a wooden board, shaped by
hand and weathered to a rough finish by the
saltwater and sun. He tells me his brother
carved the board from the wood of their
father’s old perahu boat, which was hollowed
out from a tall tree felled from the mountain
above the village many years ago.
