THE FINAL FACE OFF Our final faceoff this month features Winnipeg’s own Alexander Steen facing off against the Jets Adam Lowry in a game at MTS Iceplex on Sunday, Oct. 18. Steen played 22 minutes and 20 seconds of the game and had five shots on Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Steen and his St. Louis Blues faced the Jets the day after he met the news media to help boost KidSport Winnipeg. Steen is the owner of Great Big Adventure at 960 Lorimer Blvd., in Winnipeg -- a 12,000 square foot family entertainment centre that opened in 2013. It features a state of the art 3,500 square foot play structure and is the largest indoor play centre in Winnipeg. “Playing organized sports was a big boost for me growing up in Winnipeg,” Steen said. “Along with forming many great friendships, organized sport taught me some key fundamentals and values for life. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to play organized sports without financial obstacles. I am very pleased that we are able to make a contribution to such a fine organization like KidSport Winnipeg.” Photo by Jeff Miller This partnership means that Great Big Adventure will donate 10 cents from every paid admission between September of 2015 and September of 2016 to KidSport Winnipeg. The minimum guaranteed donation will be $5,000. All funds donated will be used to help pay sport registration fees for kids from financially disadvantaged families. KidSport is a national charity administered in Manitoba by Sport Manitoba which provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
