PATRICK SCORES HIS FIRST OF THE YEAR IBAM PRESENTS WHL GOALS OF THE WEEK By Johnston Hall Photo by Bruce Fedyck It didn’t take long for Game On Magazine’s Player to Watch for 2015-16 to score his first goal of the season. On Oct. 6 at Westman Place, Nolan Patrick split the defense and scored a beauty as he helped the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Vancouver Giants 8-3. You can see that goal as well as all the other great goals that have been scored this season as the Insurance Brokers bring you The Insurance Goals of the Week at In the meantime, if there is one thing that Brandon Wheat Kings Owner, GM and Head Coach Kelly McCrimmon can count on, it’s that players like Patrick, great young players from Manitoba, will skate through walls to play for the Wheaties. It’s one of the reasons that McCrimmon currently has 13 Manitobans on his roster. Core players such as Patrick (Winnipeg), Jayce Hawryluk (Roblin), Tyler Coulter (Brandon), Mark Taraschuk (Winnipeg) and young stars such as Stelio Mattheos (Winnipeg), Tanner Kaspick (Brandon), James Shearer (Brandon), Connor Gutenberg (Brandon), Ty Lewis (Brandon), Duncan Campbell (Brandon), Garrett Armour (Winnipeg), and Linden McCorrister (Peguis) keep the Wheat Kings lineup filled with top Manitoba prospects every night. “We’ve found over the years that Manitoba players take a lot of pride in playing for this organization,” said McCrimmon, the other day. “There were six players from Manitoba selected in the first round of the WHL bantam draft last year and we were fortunate to get one of them, Caiden Daley, another player who will have a solid future in a Wheat Kings jersey. We’re proud of our contingent of Manitoba players and we know that they’re all proud to be part of the Wheat Kings organization.” Check out the story on Stelio Mattheos of Winnipeg in this issue of Game On Magazine to find out how much pride comes out in Manitoba hockey players whenever they put on the Wheat Kings’ jersey. And thanks to IBAM for featuring the top goals from not only Manitoba’s 51 WHL players, but all the players from all the teams across Western Canada. n The Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba is one of the most committed and cherished supporters of amateur hockey in Manitoba and right across Western Canada.
