EDITOR’S NOTE CREDITS Hockey is our game. Now that’s a statement that might have trouble passing the tell-me-something-I-don’t-already-know test. After all, it’s a statement every Canadian has the right to make and here in Manitoba, hockey has such a special place in our hearts that it pretty much goes without saying. This is the game of our life. It’s what we played on the outdoor rinks in childhood and what we play on rented indoor ice now. Even as seniors. Game On is Manitoba’s hockey magazine. This is where hockey fans will meet the stars of the game here in Manitoba and where our goal is to pay tribute to those who make hockey this province’s most beloved sport. Published by Game On Manitoba Inc., this publication is edited by Scott Taylor and is designed and developed by Scott Taylor and Ken Waterman. Game On Magazine is printed by The Winnipeg Sun. Any opinions expressed belong solely to the authors and do not necessarily express the views of the magazine, or of the publishers. All published work is edited for accuracy, style, and clarity. We do accept unsolicited material as long as it refers to athletes, coaches, or volunteers involved in hockey in Manitoba. Think about it. We spend hours and hours as children practicing, skating at the community club, driving miles to get 15 minutes of ice time and then spending many more hours watching our junior, senior and professional heroes on TV or at the local rink. This is a game that is important to everyone. It is played with hope and passion on our farms, our First Nations and in our cities and towns. Names like Interlake Lightning, Deloraine Colts, Minnedosa Chancellors, Waywayseecappo Wolverines, Stonewall Rams, OCN Blizzard, Selkirk Fishermen, Steinbach Pistons, Beausejour Beavers, Arborg Ice Dawgs, Warren Mercurys, Oakville Seals and Lac Du Bonnet Blues might not be well known in Winnipeg, but throughout the province, these are the teams that show up in our rinks every night of the week and give us something to talk about at the neighborhood coffee shop in the morning. In Manitoba, we shut down the largest city in the province when the National Hockey League came back. In Manitoba, we lined up to see Jonathan Toews when he brought back the Stanley Cup. In Manitoba, we fill buildings to watch games between the Virden Oil Capitals and Portage Terriers. And in Manitoba we have not one, not two, but three high-level, international, high school prep girls programs. We love our Jets and Wheat Kings and for good reason, but we also love our bantam, midget and high school teams, we love watching the Timbits kids and we appreciate what Hockey Manitoba does to help our top young players become international stars. We love the game and in the pages of Game On, Manitoba’s Hockey Magazine, we’ll introduce you to the people who make the game great. So join us on another wonderful ride. We’ll get you up close and very personal with the young players who make hockey our game. And frankly, I can’t think of any better stories to tell.
