About
Hockey
Milan Horanski is passionate about playing hockey,
something his coach says is apparent every time he
steps on the ice. In fact, the coach of the Selkirk Fishermen,
Chris Poponick, believes his leading scorer could easily play
in the Manitoba Jr. A Hockey League. In the meantime,
Poponick just hopes he’ll see Horanski back in a Fishermen
jersey next season.

SELKIRK, MB – It was tough way to finish a hockey season. Milan
Horanski and his Selkirk Fishermen took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-
five quarterfinal with the Peguis Juniors, before Peguis won
three straight to take the series.
For Horanski, a young man who is passionate

playing hockey, it wasn’t an easy pill to swal-
low. Nobody
is going to miss the post-season compe-
tition as much as
the Fishermen’s leading scorer – and
the No. 6 scorer in the
Keystone Junior Hockey League
this season.
“Milan loves the game, and
that really comes out in the
way he plays.… He’s even
excited about practice, that kid,”

Chris
Poponick, coach of the Fishermen.
“He really cares,
and probably the best thing I can say about
him is that
he wears it on his sleeve. There’s no doubt that
M i -
lan works his butt off and he’s out to play, and that
translates to pretty much everything that he’s done,” he
says. “He’s one guy I never question if he’s 110 per cent in
because he’s always 110 per cent in.”
Horanski’s hard work and team-leading 46 goals and 72 points
helped propel the Fisherman into the playoffs with a first-round match-
up against the Peguis Juniors, the squad that swept Selkirk in the KJHL
