And it’s coming quickly. The Arborg Ice Dawgs will soon play host to the Western Canadian Jr. B Hockey Championship – and they will also represent the Keystone Jr. B Hockey League as the Host Team – and you can feel the excitement building. “I’m personally, extremely excited for the opportunity for our organi- zation to host the Western championships,” Didychuk said. “I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for our players to showcase their talent against the best Junior B players in Canada and I’m really excited for them. I also believe it’s great for the Ice Dawgs Organization and the Community of Arborg to have this opportunity.” Ivan Gulay, President and GM of the Ice Dawgs, believes the 2017 Key- stone Cup could be the biggest event in Arborg hockey history. However, more importantly, he’s proud of the board of directors and the list of committee chairs that have been assembled from within a small com- munity of just 2,000 people. Although Arborg is a small community, visitors will be treated very well. In fact, most of the teams coming to town for the Westerns will be staying in Hecla and Gimli. The Arborg and District Arena is being reno- vated and by the time the opening faceoff rolls around on April 13, the tournament committee will be ready to go. The tournament itself will be held from April 13-16, 2017, and the championship game will be played on Sunday afternoon, April 16. “We’re very excited,” said Gulay. “This is a big undertaking for a small community, but everyone is working hard and everyone is excited to play host to this tournament. It’s going to be a great event.” n Middle Row left to right: Kristin Oddleifson (Equipment Manager), Johan Einarson (Equipment), Brett Goertzen, Josh Wilkinson, Aaron Kristjanson, Colton Davies, Jor- dan Kristjanson, Neil Sigvaldason, Travis Kilbrei, Clayton Nichols, Al Sveinson (Executive) Back Row left to right: Byron Gard, Corbin Pasternak, Jordan Woytowich, Dylan Furgala, Braydon Chwartacki, Karson Collins, Spencer Kilbrei, Derric Gulay, Ron Johnston (Executive)
