DEPAPE NAMED ALL-STAR , LAURENCELLE ALL-ROOKIE
University of Manitoba Bisons star forward Jordan DePape was named to the 2016-17 Canada West men ’ s hockey Second Team All- Star while Bisons forward Remi Laurencelle was selected to All- Rookie Team . DePape , 24 , the Bisons ’ captain , completed his fourth season with Manitoba and earned his second consecutive conference All-Star selection ( 2015-16 : First Team ). This season , DePape was the team leader and tied for 17th in conference scoring with 12 goals and 23 points in only 20 conference games . Laurencelle , 21 , finished his rookie campaign at Manitoba with seven goals and 22 points , good for a tie for 19th in Canada West scoring and third best among rookie scoring . The Winnipeg product also had the most assists ( 15 ) among rookie players .

Hutchinson had five goals and 17 points in all 35 games in her final season at Bemidji while Carels had 18 goals and 37 points and led Providence in scoring in her final year . Carels and Brykaliuk had sensational years on offence while the province ’ s four defensemen were leaders and 200-foot players . There will be a dozen or so Manitoba players replacing the seniors next year , but the eight captains who will graduate this spring were all outstanding representatives of hockey in Manitoba .

He was recently named Coach of the Year in the NCHC … Lundar ’ s Logan Christensen of the Saskatoon Blades was named the team ’ s Defensive Player of the Year … Winnipeg ’ s Tyler Brown , the goaltender for the Regina Pats , was named the Pats Community Service award winner … Portage la Prairie ’ s Nick Henry was named the Regina Pats Rookie of the year . Henry had 35 goals and 81 points in 71 games in his first season in the WHL … Winnipeg goaltender Alex Henry , a former member of the Winnipeg Thrashers Midgets and MJHL ’ s Selkirk Steelers , OCN Blizzard and Neepawa Natives , led the Central Oklahoma Bronchos to the Division 1 championship of the ACHA with a 3-1 win over Ohio University . The ACHA – the American Collegiate Hockey Association – is a league for schools that don ’ t have the budgets for NCAA hockey but do have club hockey teams . In 24 games this season , Henry had a goals against average of 2.38 and a save percentage of . 914 … Winnipeg ’ s Cody Glass of the Portland Winterhawks , finished sixth in scoring in the WHL with 32 goals and 94 points in 68 games . Strathclair ’ s Morgan Geekie of the Tri-City Americans was 11th with 34 goals and 89 points in 70 games .
This season , there were 36 young Manitoba hockey players on NCAA Division 1 women ’ s teams and eight of them just happened to be the captains of the respective teams – Brandon ’ s Ashleigh Brykaliuk at Minnesota-Duluth ( F ), Neepawa ’ s Halli Krzyzaniak at UND ( D ), Bruxelle ’ s Cassidy Carels at Providence ( F ), Winnipeg ’ s Justine Fredette at Connecticut ( F ), Glenboro ’ s Jess Vallotton at Maine ( D ), St . Adolphe ’ s Rikki Meilleur at Robert Morris ( F ), Winnipeg ’ s Larissa Martyniuk ( D ) at Syracuse and Manitou ’ s Madison Hutchinson ( D ) at Bemidji State . All eight had solid seasons . Meilleur had five goals and seven points on a Robert Morris team that went 15-3-2 in the CHA while Martyniuk had two goals and 11 points in all 34 games for CHA rival Syracuse , a team that went 14-4-2 . Fredette had five goals and 16 points in all 36 games at UConn while Vallotton had a goal and four points in her final season at Maine . Brykaliuk had 17 goals and 45 points in her final season with
