LEDYARD FIRST INDUCTEE TO BLUES HALL OF FAME
The Winnipeg Blues have inducted defenseman Grant Ledyard as the first member of their Hall of Fame . In front of his friends , family , and Blues fans , he thanked everyone for the support and talked about his experience growing up in Winnipeg . “ The Winnipeg Blues are such an important part of my life ,” Ledyard said . “ I wouldn ’ t have gotten anywhere without them .” A No . 3 banner , that will hang permanently in the MTS Iceplex was unveiled in early February . Ledyard played with the Fort Garry Blues , now the Winnipeg Blues , from 1978 to 1980 and then again in 1981-82 . In the 1981-82 season ,
Bisons stars Erica Rieder and Alanna Sharman , playing for Team Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty , Kazakhstan in early February , finished with a silver medal after a 4-1 loss to Russia in the final . Both players were terrific . Third-year forward Sharman , 19 , scored eight points while third-year defenseman Rieder had a plus-9 plus / minus rating in the 2017 Universiade . Sharman had a goal and seven assists in five games during the tournament . She was plus-seven with 15 shots on goal . Rieder , 20 , added a goal and two points while producing seven shots . Shar- man and Rieder are the fifth a n d sixth Manitoba Bisons player to play for Team Canada women ’ s hockey at the Universiade . In previous years , Bison forward Maggie Litchfield- Medd was part of Team Canada ’ s silver medal performance in 2015 . Bison defenseman Caitlin
MacDonald was part of the gold medal team in 2013 , Bison forward Addie Miles won gold in 2011 for Team Canada and at the inaugural women ’ s hockey event at the 2009 Winter Universiade in Harbin , China , Bison goaltender Stacey Corfield was the starter for the gold medal match , which Canada won 3-1 .
