HALL OF FAMER RAY BOURQUE FORMER LEAFS D-MAN AL IAFRATE WITH WINNIPEG SUN HOCKEY WRITER KEN WIEBE Cameron who is still on the ice every day, was quite impressed with the up-tempo style the old-timers displayed. “Considering we’re all old guys playing all these games in one day, the pace of play has stayed surprisingly high,” he said. “The guys want to do a good job and they want to play hard so it’s been good competition. But with three games in one day, my shifts are short.” One of the smaller, faster, grittier players on the ice was 62-year- old Bruce Johnson. At one time, he was the owner of the World Fa- mous Rorie Street Marble Club, but left the night club dodge and started a landscaping business, a business he recently sold. Now retired, he still plays as much hockey as he can. “This was a great tournament,” Johnson said. “We had to scramble to get guys to play. We had some guys drop out, but the next thing you know, we’ve got Frazer McLaren who played for the Leafs and James Martin who played for the Marlies. Al Iafrate was our pro and our guys were lights out. It was all kinds of fun. “In fact, Andy Kollar, the former UND national championship goalie who now runs the Icelab goalie clinic for True North was our goalie, but he had a pulled groin. So he had to play stand-up the whole tour- nament. He couldn’t go down. He did a really good job for a guy who was ‘old’ and had a torn groin.” This year’s top individual fundraiser was Greg Fettes who raised $39,910. Warren Sigfusson was next at $21,000. The Top team fun- draiser -- the team that got to play in the final against all the pros -- was 24-7 In Touch and Friends, who raised $128,572. Richardson Pioneers were next at $55,425 while Friends of TNYF were third at $49,621. Those were your real winners. “I had a great time,” said Willie Plouffe, 48, the former single sea- son penalty-minutes record holder for the River East Royal Knights. “It’s my sixth time being here and there is nothing better than play- ing with these pros. The Keane Foundation does a great job. Mike comes out and he’s a great guy, playing some fun hockey, passing the puck around a little bit. It’s a lot of fun – good food, good drinks. Nothing better.” n JOE NIEUWENDYK WOULD PROBABLY LOOK GOOD IN A REAL MOOSE JERSEY MIKE KEANE AND JOE NIEUWENDYK 2017 PLAYOFF EDITION GAME ON 105
