Robert Broten has figured out the Player ’ s Edge . It ’ s that space where the difference between moving up and moving out exists . Officially , he is a Master Practitioner of Neuro- Linguistic Programming , a Master Practitioner of Mental and Emotional Release and a Master Practitioner in Hypnotherapy . Put it all together and Robert Broten is , in fact , a brain coach .

Based in Winnipeg , Broten specializes in working with amateur and professional athletes to maintain and increase their high performance excellence and focus . Robert ’ s ability to quickly coach his clients in aligning their mind towards their goals , creating instant change in their unwanted behaviours and habits , coaching elite focus and confidence is how he achieves his results . Broten has a solid reputation and is respected in the sport community , working with teams like the U of M Bisons Men ’ s Hockey team , pro and amateur hockey players , pro golfers , curling teams , marathon runners , rowers and other high performance athletes in sport to increase their success .
He also understands The Player ’ s Edge . “ As an athlete , you generally have the same conditioning , skills , size and strength as the competition ” he said . “ Having the skills to manage your thoughts , control your emotions and instantly put yourself in a high performance state is The Player ’ s Edge . It will allow you to perform at your greatest level . Giving my clients that edge over the competition .”
For Zach Court , a Winnipegger who plays with the BCHL ’ s Merritt Centennials ( and soon to be an undergraduate on the hockey team at the University of Alaska-Anchorage ), believes that working with Broten has given him that edge . “ Working with Bob has increased my ability to understand the importance of mental strength and preparation in order to be successful both on and off the ice ,” said Court . “ Bob ’ s commitment to aligning your mind with your athletic ability will give players the advantage needed to reach their goals .”
Broten ’ s firm is called Align Your Mind : High Performance Brain Coaching in Sports . You can find him at www . alignyourmind . ca . He is a father , a sport junkie , a musician , golfer and foodie . His love for sports and people is what drives him to provide athletes with the tools they need to be their best . “ I coach athletes , at all levels to become elite at staying present and in the moment ,” he explained . “ And as they work with me , they learn to manage the storylines around the game , emotions in the dressing room and remain in the “ eye of the hurricane ” so they can be at their best . I coach them how to manage all the external triggers in their environment keeping their mind and body in the zone throughout the game .” Broten is also an expert at changing unconscious behaviours . Whether it is emotional baggage , unwanted reactions , anger , need for control , phobias , anxiety , overthinking – he can help remove all these unwanted behaviours from a player , returning them back to a clear and joyful mindset .”
Stephen Kleysen , another Winnipegger who plays for the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL ( who has multiple offers from NCAA Division 1 schools ) is trying to decide on where to play hockey next season and believes working with Broten has changed his game . “ Working with Bob has helped me stay relaxed and confident on the ice ,” Kleysen said . “ The confidence that I have been able to build and maintain by working with Bob has helped me to be consistent on the ice and keep any off-ice problems from affecting my on-ice performance . I have been able to do things that I didn ’ t even know I was capable of , by believing in my ability and harnessing the confidence that I ’ ve created .”
As Broten coaches his athletes , he literally “ rewires ” or “ reprograms ” their unconscious minds for success . It allows them to quickly achieve their short and long-term goals . He also uses meditation to enhance their skillsets and create powerful beliefs at the unconscious level . Broten ’ s work is designed so that athletes can program their mind and body for success but more importantly , he removes the unconscious mental blocks that cause those unwanted behaviours and emotions . “ These techniques are transferable skills that these athletes can incorporate all throughout their lives , in and out of sport . It ’ s about understanding your mind and how to control it – become a better you and you will become a better athlete .” ❍
