HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER G O I N G L AV E N D E R F O R A C A U S E BY KRISTA SINAISKY Fans at Bell MTS Place will be seeing lavender Monday, November 27 when the Winnipeg Jets host their sixth Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) night in support of CancerCare Manitoba’s Pediatric Clinical Trials. The whole arena and NHL experience is transformed to bring awareness and funds to the fight against cancer. The initiative is especially important to the Winnipeg Jets because of the incredible way in which funds raised are being put to use locally. “Everything known about how to cure children with cancer has been learned from decades of research and clinical trials,” says Annitta Stenning, president & CEO, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. “CancerCare Manitoba has the highest participation rate for pediatric patients entered in trials in the country and donations enable the Foundation to fund nearly 50 per cent of these trials. We are so grateful for the HFC campaign and the support of Manitobans who make this possible.” The campaign officially started on October 29 and Manitobans will have many opportunities to contribute to this great cause leading up to November 27. Autographed mini sticks and special edition pucks, as well as raffle tickets for the chance to win one of ten lavender warmup-issued, autographed jerseys are available for purchase at Jets and Moose home games. The special edition warmup jerseys worn by the team will be auctioned off online. Jets Gear stores at Polo Park, Kildonan Place, St. Vital Centre, Bell MTS Place and Bell MTS Iceplex will also sell raffle tickets throughout the month of November, giving those who are unable to attend these games an opportunity to support the cause. More information on how to contribute can be found at winnipegjets.com/hfc. Tickets for the November 27 Hockey Fights Cancer game are available at winnipegjets.com/tickets.
