Hamonic Keeps Grinding Because He Loves the Game 3 8 | G AM E ON | N OVEM BER 2017 B Y S C O T T TAY L O R Photos by Bruce Fedyck and Darren Abate IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY that Justin Hamonic loves the game of hockey more than any other player. However, it would be fair to say he enjoys it more than most. After all, he’s certainly not in it for the money. He’s a pro, but he’s an ECHL pro. In fact, since his final season with the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans, this former member of the City Midget Winnipeg Monarchs and Provincial Triple A Midget Winnipeg Wild has played for five ECHL teams in some part or all of four seasons. “It’s my fourth East Coast League team in three years,” he said. “Fort Wayne and San Antonio in my first full year as a pro pro and then San Antonio and Colorado last year. “You just have to keep it in perspective and think about what people would give to have the opportunity I’m getting now to play pro hockey. So you just have to keep that perspective. Keep working every day to get that edge and eventually make the jump to the next level. I believe I’m pretty close, but it’s just some little things that have kept me from getting to the AH L.
