detail is very challenging and
is something I really enjoy,”
he said. “You’re working with
designers who pay big money
for a high end product so they
expect the very best.”
Meanwhile, on the ice,
Dawson credits his current
coaches with a lot of his
development while his midget
coach Tim Rothwell really
impacted him in terms of
team play, developing as a
player, but most importantly
as a person.
“I learned a lot from Coach
Rothwell,” he said. “He not
only tried to make good
hockey players out of us, but
he worked hard to make us
good people and emphasized
strong character. That was, and
still is, important to me.
“The things I’ve learned
from hockey that will help
me in life include the idea
that good things just don’t
happen or come easy. You’ve
got to work, work, work and
when things don’t go your way
you’ve got get back up and
keep going.”
Dawson credits his parents
for giving him the opportunity
to play at the Triple AAA level
and credits them for pushing
him to keep fighting through
thick and thin. His parents
were always involved from
cheering, managing the team
and of course paying the
fees that organized hockey
demands. Most importantly,
however, they’ve always been
there when he needed them.
In the meantime, this is
a special hockey year for
Dawson – his final season
in the MMJHL. There is no
question that this is a guy
who wants to end his run on
a high note and definitely has
another league championship
on his agenda. ❍

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO
DO WHEN YOU AREN’T
PLAYING HOCKEY?
I play baseball and I enjoy dirt biking in
the summer and like most Interlakers,
I like snowmobiling in the winter. And
like most guys, I play video games. I like
NHL 18 and Grand Theft Auto.
YOUR MOM IS FROM
ENGLAND. HAS THAT BEEN
AN INFLUENCE IN YOUR LIFE?
Yes. I’ve visited my grandparents there
three or four times. I really like my
grandfather David Clark. He’s a very
comical guy who served in the military
and was involved in peace keeping.
Although we speak the same language,
the culture is totally different. England
is very different from Canada. When I
show my relatives and my grandfather
video of hockey they think it’s strange
and wild. They’re blown away by it.
WHAT’S YOUR
FAVOURITE MUSIC?
I’m a Classic Rock fan but I also like
punk rock and some hip hop.
WHAT’S YOUR
FAVOURITE NHL TEAM?
My favourite NHL team has always
been the Edmonton Oilers, but
my favourite players are Chris
Pronger and Sheldon Souray.
I try to play the game like
Chris Pronger.
WHO IS YOUR
FAVORITE PLAYER
I’ve played against some
awesome players, but the best
would be Nolan Patrick.
He is a super gifted player.
I recall killing penalties against him and
the way he could see the ice and direct
the play was unbelievable.”
WHO CRACKS YOU UP
Our goalie, Hunter Ploszay, is the
funniest guy on the team.
WHAT’S THE LAST
BOOK YOU READ
Jordin Tootoo’s “My Life on Ice”. I was
surprised by Tootoo’s candidness and
the trials and tribulations he went
through outside the rink.
DO YOU HAVE A
FAVOURITE ACTOR?
“My all-time favorite movie is Step
Brothers and my favourite actor was
Paul Walker. My favourite actress is
Jennifer Aniston because she has it
all – the looks and the skills.”
